VCS 2021 Winter announced following confirmation of Vietnam's absence from World Championship

The Vietnam Championship Series will be extending its season in lieu of its region's absence from the 2021 League of Legends World Championship. As a result, TCS Winter will start on November 16 and will conclude on New Year's Eve. VCS 2021 Winter will follow the same format as regular VCS splits, with best-of-three matches taking place in the regular season and best-of-five matches taking place in the post-season.

The VCS Summer Split was unable to take place due to the situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam, and as a result, no Vietnamese teams were able to travel to compete at Worlds 2021 in Reykjavik, Iceland. This is the third international event in a row the VCS has missed due to these circumstances; the fourth if you count the full cancellation of the 2020 Mid-Season Invitational.

Initial reports pointed towards the VCS Summer Split being canceled following a full summer without a match played or an official announcement about the state of the league, but also, that the region would find a way to send teams to Worlds via a qualifier tournament.

However, once again, the VCS will not be attending an international event. As a result, Pacific Championship Series champion and #1 seed at Worlds PSG Talon will be wearing the VCS' logo on their jerseys as an homage to the Vietnamese teams unable to travel to the event.

Because of the VCS' absence from the 2021 World Championship, format changes had to be made to accommodate for two less teams than originally planned. The Play-in was adjusted to fit the same format as Worlds 2020, which the VCS also missed, and the VCS' spot in the Group Stage of the main event was given to the League of Legends European Championship's #3 seed, Fnatic.
