G2 Esports is reportedly in talks with multiple League of Legends European Championship teams regarding potentially buying out G2's contracts for top laner Martin "Wunder" Hansen, support Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle and head coach Fabian "GrabbZ" Lohmann. The report was made by Dot Esports' Pablo "Bloop" Suárez, who stated that sources told him that the respective buyouts for GrabbZ, Mikyx, and Wunder are €160.000, €1.500.000, and €2.000.000.
G2 Esports was expected to make changes after missing the League of Legends World Championship for the first time in the organization's history. Since joining the EU LCS in 2016 [the LEC rebrand and franchising occured after the 2018 season], G2 Esports has qualified for Worlds every season until now. Wunder, Mikyx, and GrabbZ to G2 through the end of the 2022 season after the entire team agreed to multi-year contract extensions in the summer of 2020.
G2 Esports has made the biggest waves of the early off-season, and the 2021 World Championship hasn't even begun. G2 has reportedly already been accused of tampering by MAD Lions, though off-season interactions between both squads have reportedly not ceased.
MAD Lions has reportedly allowed G2 Esports a tryout for Victor "Flakked" Lirola, the starting AD carry for MAD Lions Madrid, the organization's squad in the SuperLiga. It is also reported that G2 has yet to make any definitive plans regarding AD carry Martin "Rekkles" Larsson, but G2 has also reportedly expressed interest in MAD Lions starting AD carry Matyáš "Carzzy" Orság, as well as other starting LEC AD carries.
According to Bloop's report, sources say that Team Vitality and Team BDS, the latter of whom will be replacing FC Schalke 04 Esports in the 2022 LEC Season, have expressed interest in potentially buying out contracts from G2 Esports.
