With the introduction of Heroes of the Storm 2.0, Blizzard is hard at work ushering in a new era. In the midst of immense progress however, there are many community questions and concerns about master skins and their role in the new system.
According to Blizzard, master skins were designed as a gold and time sink to allow players to show off their prowess with a hero. Unfortunately, they competed with new heroes and other skins, and as a result, most players didn’t own or use their master skins. In Heroes 2.0, master skins can be unlocked from any loot chest and are no longer symbols of progression.
To replace the past role of master skins, Blizzard has come up with a new system of hero mastery taunts which will allow seasoned players to display their skill. Players will unlock the first mastery taunt when they reach level 15 or higher on a hero, which will display unique visual effects overhead along with a custom taunt. As of right now, the Open Beta includes only the first mastery taunt. Future updates will feature new taunts at hero levels 25, 50, 75, and 100.
Blizzard shared that they were aware of public opinion by apologizing for the delay in sharing this news. They said they are also receiving plenty of feedback regarding loot chests for veteran players.
