Jon Spector, Vice President of the Overwatch League, took to Twitter on Wednesday to deny a report from Sascha "Yirsk" Heinisch claiming that the League would take a full one-year hiatus before OWL season 5.
"It's really not practical to respond to every rumor about our future plans, but in this case this story is inaccurate," Jon Spector explained. "We have not set not communicated dates about our 2022 season yet but do not plan to take a 'year-long hiatus' in any scenario we are considering currently.
An Overwatch League representative also told Inven Global, in response to a request for comment, "This piece is just wrong, and was reported irresponsibly."
There was a longer break between Season 3 and Season 4 than has been featured in previous years, but a full year-long hiatus would be unprecedented were it true. However, based on the Overwatch League's quick and emphatic response, there is no truth to the report coming out of GGRecon.
