On July 3, in the 2021 League of Legends Champions Korea Summer Split, Afreeca Freecs defeated T1, and DRX failed to break their losing streak against Liiv SANDBOX.
In game 1 of the first match, T1 had a good start as they picked up kills in the top and bot lanes. Especially, Kim "Canna" Chang-dong's Viego picked up three kills and scaled quickly. Afreeca Freecs took benefits from the side lanes and started to strike back. However, T1 maintained the lead in the fights around objectives. Park "Teddy" Jin-seong's Ezreal dealt massive damage in all fights. With the strength of Canna and Teddy, T1 took game 1.
Afreeca Freecs didn't step back. Although T1 had a good start as Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok's Nocturne collected three kills early in the game, Afreeca Freecs cut off Nocturne twice and managed to get Baron as well. With that, Afreeca Freecs closed the gap in global gold and caught up with the dragon stacks as well. As the tables were turned, Afreeca Freecs continued to pressure T1, and in a teamfight around mid lane, Afreeca Freecs had a big win and closed the game.
In the end, it was Afreeca Freecs who collected the win. Afreeca Freecs kept throwing punches with the play of Son "Lehends" Si-woo and T1 kept guarding the blows. Spells were used but there weren't many kills. Afreeca Freecs kept attacking and attacking, and they eventually got through. After a big win in front of Baron, Afreeca Freecs took the win.
The second match was between Liiv SANDBOX and DRX. Liiv SANDBOX was aiming for a 3-game winning streak while DRX was trying to get their first win of the season. In the first game, first blood came at the 20-minute mark. DRX took a kill using multiple global ultimates, but Liiv SANDBOX struck back right away and took two kills with Baron. After taking the initiative, Liiv SANDBOX easily took the win.
DRX came back in the second game. Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon’s Diana scaled very quickly in early game skirmishes and DRX snowballed through that lead. DRX also took the dragons and widened the global gold gap to 10K gold. With their lead, DRX tied the game.
The third game seemed to be close as well, but Yoo “FATE” Soo-hyeok made several super plays and put a brake on DRX. Liiv SANDBOX got back on their feet to win the teamfight at the 20-minute mark. They took Baron as well. After this point, there were no more surprises. Liiv SANDBOX collected the win and ranked themselves at 3rd place with 5 wins.
