On June 16, Gen.G was able to defeat kt Rolster in the 2021 League of Legends Champions Korea Summer Splilt. It was a close 2-1 victory for Gen.G. In the match, Gen.G support Kim “Life” Jeong-min had a great performance and was voted for the Player of the Game in game 1. He joined Inven Global for an interview after the match.

How do you feel about today’s win?

We prepared a lot because KT defeated DWG KIA. What I felt this season was that they didn’t give much POGs to support players, but I’m proud that I was voted as Player of the Game today.

Did you think that the game would be this close today?

KT showed a great performance against DWG KIA, and Blank’s ganks were very sharp, maybe because of his experience. His routing was great too. Before the match, we didn’t think it’ll be that difficult, but we could make mistakes. If KT seized those mistakes well, I thought it might get hard to win.

The bot lane took a huge lead in the first game, so we won. The second game was regretful. I picked Karma against Tahm Kench, and I was excited since it’s easy for Karma to keep hitting Tahm Kench, but we were ganked by Blank at level 3 and it got difficult. We had a teamfight comp in the third game. I think we were able to win because we fought well with that comp.

Gen.G played on the red side in all three games. Does Gen.G consider the red side better in this meta?

We think the two sides are similar. It depends on the opponent team’s style or their preference. We started on red side today, and KT didn’t change sides on their pick.

In a previous interview, Rascal said that it’s difficult to organize the champion tiers in this meta. How is it?

We did figure out most of the champion tiers, but it’s all different depending on the team composition or how skilled the players are at the champions. In that regard, I don’t think there are any champions that are clearly ahead of other champs.

Life is a player that utilizes Hexflash very well. I think you would be unhappy that you can’t use it right now.

That’s really unfortunate for me. There are many things that we’re practicing and it’s sometimes hard because I can’t use Hexflash. I heard that it’ll be available in the next patch, so I want to show more things then.

As much as the meta is kind of chaotic, do you watch other leagues a lot?

I’ve been watching the LPL. In the LPL, there aren’t many teams that play the bot lane very aggressively, so I just keep an eye on them. As a team, we keep a record of the champions on the top side.

Gen.G picked Ezreal in all three games today. How is he?

Actually, Ezreal is a pick that I don’t like. I would say he’s weak — he’s rather weak in 2v2s. Also, the Ezreals I meet in solo queue play kind of passively, but Ruler plays really well and deals tons of damage. Even if I dislike playing support for Ezreal, I like him if Ezreal is Ruler. Other than Ruler, I can’t really trust them. [Laughs]

In that regard, Bdd’s Azir always seems to save the team from pinches.

When Bdd plays Azir, he’s extremely good. On the other hand, it feels like he makes the plays that I should pull off — he does my job so there’s not much for me to do. Frankly, I wish the opponents ban Azir. [Laughs]

Is that because Bdd shines more and there’s no chance for you to show off?

[Laughs] There are some situations where I should go in, but he does that for me. It’s convenient, but sometimes I get jealous.

Gen.G is off to a good start this season.

Each team has different tiers for the champions, and since it’s early in the season, we were able to have a good start. I think it’ll change as the season goes on, so I think we should keep our concentration up.

Your next match is against Nongshim RedForce. How do you think it’ll go?

Nongshim RedForce plays well around Peanut, so if we mark Peanut well, I think we could win easily.

How about Kellin?

Kellin seems to do nothing these days. [Laughs] I think we’ll win if I just watch him. Ruler will probably do everything. All I need to do is just trust Ruler, and he'll do everything.
