Just as the Pokemon TCG market was getting back to normal, YouTuber Logan Paul decided to wear one of the rarest Pokemon cards around his neck for the heavily watched Floyd Mayweather fight on June 6.

The stunt rekindled public fascination with Pokemon cards and their alleged (inflated) values, something that frustrated the Pokemon TCG community throughout 2020 when big-name influencers started opening up packs and relying on "experts" to say insanely large values to hype up kids about their pulls. 

With Pokemon cards in the spotlight again, the community dreads the return of inflated market values, an influx of unaware people willing to pay those numbers, and the continuation of scalpers taking advantage of those people. The drama previously led to retail stores pulling card games altogether. With Target finally selling Pokemon cards again (some without any purchase limits), fans are hoping Logan Paul's stunt won't get further attention. 

BGS 10 1st Edition Base Set Charizard appears

There are only three BGS 10 1st Edition Base Set Charizards in the world. That means the cards were submitted to be graded and received a 10 due to their perfect condition. Two of these cards are owned by Gary "King Pokemon," who showed them off on Pawn Stars a while ago.

The legendary collector was looking for the third for a while. And it looks like it somehow got into the hands of Logan Paul. It's worth about $250,000, which is already quite steep. 

But every Pokemon collectors' fear came true during the Paul vs. Mayweather fight, which was viewed by 25,000 people live. They all heard Paul say: "Estimated value... I mean now this is a $1 million card." 

It's not. 

But maybe now it will be, thanks to Logan Paul's statement. Other cards have seen steep markups thanks to Logan Paul's Pokemon card videos, including when he purchased six 1st Edition Base Set boxes for $2 million. 

While the drama with Logan Paul's "fake expert" is mostly over, Paul and other YouTubers have continued to spike up card prices with their over-the-top evaluations and the influx of viewers who are willing to overpay if it means getting in on the trend. 

Many Pokemon TCG groups have already begged mods to cease the continued allowance of posts about Logan Paul's Charizard necklace. Many groups have moved those articles, posts, and memes to one thread to keep it to a minimum. While Pokemon-related, a lot of OG Pokemon card collectors and players have a very strong disdain for Paul and his negative impact on the Pokemon TCG market.
