The League of Legends' community teamed up for a good cause.
On Tuesday afternoon, Riot Games shared an update on their most recent community initiative aimed at raising money towards the Riot Games Social Impact Fund at ImpactAssets which sets its sights on solving some of the world's most pressing problems, according to the organization.
In order to raise as much money as possible, the League of Legends' development team sounded the horn and summoned Ornn. It was a smashing success.
Announced back in December of 2020, players from around the world could purchase the Elderwood Ornn champion skin, and all of the proceeds from the transaction would go straight to the charity fund. According to Riot, the event was a resounding success as more than $7 million was raised, smashing the previous record of over $6 million set by the Dawnbringer Karma skin campaign.
The skin went live in the in-game shop on the 16th of December last year and was priced at 1350 RP. If players did not have any RP in their accounts at the time and needed enough to purchase the skin, 1380 could be bought for the price of $10 USD. Based on the sales figure of over $7 million accumulated as part of the campaign, it can be estimated that nearly three-quarters of a million people bought the skin around the world.
