100 Thieves has made the first big move in the break between the Spring Split and the Summer Split of the 2021 League of Legends Championship Series. 100 has parted ways with head coach Tony "Zikz" Gray and signed Bok "Reapered" Han-gyu in his place. Zikz has coached 100 Thieves for the last three splits after spending 2019 as the head coach of TSM. Before that, Zikz was a member of the coaching staff of Counter Logic Gaming for four and a half years, the latter three as head coach.
Zikz came under fire from 100 Thieves fans for his decision to begin starting Tommy "ry0ma" Le after Tanner "Damonte" Damonte struggled in the 2021 LCS Spring Split, and while ry0ma was an individual improvement in the current competitive meta, it did little to solve the team's problems.
"It was a hard choice, but with the meta the way it is currently, we felt like it was a choice we had to make to stay competitive," Zikz explained in an interview with Inven Global shortly after the change in roster. "ry0ma has been doing very well on 100 Thieves Academy; he's considered one of the best academy mids at the moment, and when we tried him in LCS scrims, he was performing really well against all the best mid laners we scrimmed."
The signing of Reapered, while a near-inarguable individual upgrade due to his success as the head coach of Cloud9 from the summer of 2016 through 2020, also provides an interesting rumor in the report that 100 Thieves is looking to acquire Yasin "Nisqy" Dincer from Fnatic.
Nisqy was a big part of Reapered's sole LCS championship with Cloud9 in the spring of 2020, and it's hard to argue that, from the outside, any coach has gotten as much out of Nisqy's ability as much as Reapered.
