Treyarch finally released the full details for Season Two of Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The new season will bring new maps, operators, weapons, and modes to both Cold War and Warzone. Among the new games is an all-new co-op zombies mode called Outbreak.
The new season will add six new weapons to both Cold War and Warzone. The FARA 83 assault rifle will arrive during the launch week of Season Two. It is a fully-automatic rifle balanced around its fast fire rate. The FARA 83 will be available for free in tier 15 of the Season Two Battle Pass.
The LC10 SMG will also be releasing next week. This weapon promises to bring all the close quarters stopping power of an SMG while remaining effective at mid-range due to its low recoil. The LC10 will be available for free in tier 31 of the Season Two Battle Pass.
Later in the season, Treyarch will add the R1 Shadowhunter crossbow and the ZRG Two0mm sniper rifle to the game. Treyarch will also be releasing two new melee weapons later in the season: the machete and the e-tool shovel. Players will be able to unlock these four weapons by completing challenges or purchasing them as Blueprints in the digital store.
The new season will also feature four new operators. Treyarch will kick off the season by adding the new Operator Naga, with three more operators launching throughout Season Two.
Warzone will be getting some new game modes in Season Two. During launch week, Treyarch will release the Rebirth Island Resurgence Extreme mode. This is a repackaged version of the Resurgence game mode, which is the only game mode that takes place on Warzone’s Rebirth Island map.
Resurgence has no gulag. Instead, the mode features the ability for teammates to respawn after a certain amount of time. This respawn mechanic encourages teams to aggressively eliminate each other before their opponents can respawn. The extreme version will drop as many as 90 players onto Warzone's smallest map for some fast-paced action.
Later in the season, Treyarch will launch the new Exfiltration mode. In this mode, players will race to secure portable radios that will periodically activate throughout the map. If a player can secure one of these radios and hold onto it for a specified amount of time, they will automatically win the game. However, anyone who is holding the radio will be marked on the minimap for enemies to see. Beyond that, normal battle royale rules apply.
Four new maps
Treyarch will be launching four new multiplayer maps in Season Two. The first new map is called Apocalypse and it takes place in a Lao jungle cartel base. This small-to-medium-sized 6v6 map will be launching alongside the new season.
Three more maps will be coming later in the season — Golova, Mansion, and Miami Strike. Golova is a multi-team map set inside a traditional Russian Village. It will feature larger game types like Fireteam and Combined Arms. Mansion is a 2v2 and 3v3 map that is designed for fast-paced, dueling action inside an abandoned mansion. Finally, Miami Strike is a 6v6 daytime remake of the Miami multiplayer map already in Cold War.
Three new game modes
Cold War will be receiving new game modes as well. A Gun Game Free-For-All mode will be launching alongside the new season. The mode will require players to progress through 20 tiers of weapons by getting a kill with each one. Players will have to acquire a knife kill at tier 20 to claim the victory.
A new 6v6 mode called Stockpile will be coming sometime during the new season. This mode is a mix of Hardpoint and Kill Confirmed. Players will have to collect dog tags from downed enemies and then return those dog tags to a specified deposit site on the map. If a player dies, they drop any dog tags they were carrying. The first team to gain the set number of dog tags takes home the win.
The final new mode of Season Two will be a multi-team version of Hardpoint. In this mode, 10 squads of four will compete to hold Hardpoint hills, with the first team to 500 seconds winning the match.
Along with their competitive updates for Warzone and Coldwar, Treyarch announced that a zombie mode is coming to Warzone called Outbreak.
According to Thursday’s announcement, “Outbreak is a large-scale zombies experience unlike any other.” The new mode will feature four-player co-op and will continue the Dark Aether storylines established in the previous Call of Duty Zombies game modes.
Outbreak will include a new field upgrade called Frenzied Guard. This upgrade can be activated to make all zombies attack the player who activated it. The ability can be used strategically to save an overrun teammate or to heard zombies into a trap.
There is also a new ammo mod coming to Outbreak called Shatter Blast. This ammo type, which can be acquired from Pack-a-Punch machines or Elemental Pop, turns your bullets into explosives. This ammo type will be a strong counter to armored enemies like heavy zombies, in addition to having the ability to knock down normal-sized enemies.
Not much is yet known about Outbreak's specific objectives or playstyle, but Treyarch promised more details about the mode are coming soon.
The new Call of Duty season will launch between 9 PM and 11 PM PT on February 24th.
