Veteran AD Carry Martin "Rekkles" Larsson is reportedly to wear the samurai of G2 Esports in the 2021 season, according to Pablo "BloopGG" Suarez of Esportsmaniacos. Rekkles' departure from Fnatic was announced just tonight, Nov. 18, but according to reports, his free agency period has been a very short one.
Rekkles spent the last five and a half years of his career being the banner-bearer for Fnatic, taking them to five LEC grand finals (two wins), a top 4 at MSI 2018 and a second place at Worlds 2018. He remains the most decorated ADC of his region, the role-swapping Luka "Perkz" Perkovic notwithstanding.
Rekkles reported signing with G2 Esports will be another chapter in the G2 vs. Fnatic rivalry. The two clubs have won every single LEC title but one, with G2 currently on a four-split win streak. Without their star carry, Fnatic could potentially be even farther behind their rivals coming into the new season.
This wouldn't be the first time Fnatic sends a top tier talent over to G2 Esports. In November 2018, Rasmus "Caps" Winther chose G2 over Fnatic during the preseason and grew to become one of G2's primary carries, helping them establish their current LEC legacy and leading them to the Worlds 2019 grand finals.
If the deal is made official, it will rival in significance that of Perkz's departure from G2 to join Cloud9, which has been dubbed the roster move of the season.
