Amidst the changes of the off-season, Afreeca Freecs announced a coaching change, releasing their head coach, Choi "iloveoov" Yun Sung. iloveoov has coached the team since 2017, including their Worlds run in 2018 which took the team to the quarters against Cloud9. The team has otherwise been middling in the LCK, finishing 5th most of his seasons with them, and outside of their second-place finish in Spring 2018 and first-place finish in the 2019 Kespa Cup, was never a dominant LCK team.
iloveoov was originally a professional StarCraft player, most notably playing for a different Korean esports org, T1 (then known as SK Telecom T1). He played for them for a few years before becoming a StarCraft coach for the org, not entering the League of Legends scene for a number of years later when he joined Afreeca Freecs.
This is the team's first change made since their inclusion in the LCK franchise which was announced by Riot Games Korea on November 1. The team was chosen along with nine others to be a part of the original franchisement of the LCK, following the LPL, LCS, and LEC, becoming the final major professional League of Legends region to franchise. The team has not yet announced his replacement.
The official free agency period begins in mid-November, where players and coaches contracts end and teams are freely allowed to sign new team members. See all the current signings here:
