Having the right tools is quintessential for any line of work. When it’s applied to competitive League of Legends, having the right tools means drafting the right champions that are not only strong, but have great synergy with one another. Before the start of a League of Legends game, the coaching staff enters a mind battle with their opponents to not only counter what the enemy has to offer, but also to provide the right set of tools that the players can use.
Max Waldo is a 21 year old coach from North America. He started off his League of Legends career as a top laner on 100 Thieves academy. After his tenure with 100 Thieves ended, he flew over to Korea to shadow Nicholas “LS” De Cesare, a coach who is considered to be one of the leading innovative minds in the scene, for 2+ years. Max built his own career and reputation through private League of Legends coaching, as well as a positional coach on bbq Olivers. In a conversation that nearly lasted two hours, Max talked about his approach to the draft, provided his thoughts on all the drafts from the semifinals of Worlds 2020, and made mock drafts for Worlds finals.
