Effective immediately, ESL Europe’s Go4Battlerite tournaments will now be played in 3v3 format, with minor changes made to the prize distribution and map pool.
For the last several months, there has been some debate in the Battlerite community over whether the competitive format should be 2v2 or 3v3, as each game mode plays out differently and has different levels of balance based on the current metagame.
According to the ESL announcement, a poll indicated that an overwhelming majority of 71% of players preferred the 3v3 format. Though there are still many players who prefer 2v2, ESL found it important as a “community driven website” to side with the majority and implement 3v3 as the new standard.
The change will take effect immediately. To compensate for the larger pool of players, the prize pool of 150€, which was previously split between first and second place, will now be awarded solely to the tournament champion. The map pool will be cut down to include only 3v3 maps as well.
