On February 28th, Valve announced that it will integrate eye tracking technology into OpenVR.
Developed by Sensor Motoric Instruments, this eye tracking technology will be available to the popular HTC Vive. Additionally, eye tracking will be showcased on the reveal of the newest Vive at this year’s GDC.
Eye tracking follows the headset user’s vision and is touted as the technology that will take VR to the next level by solving common problems like control. In Japan, the first eye tracking VR headset, FOVE garnered much attention.
Valve reminded us that the unveil of new Vive didn’t necessarily mean the product was nearing release and that the release schedule and price will be made public down the line.
