Minecraft sells over 120 million copies

Minecraft, developed and published by Mojang, reaches over 120 million copies sold on Feb 27th.


Minecraft is arguably the most famous sandbox game around the globe. According to its official social media page, 122 million copies have been sold, which makes it the second best-selling game in the history of video games. (The best-selling game of all time is Tetris, which has sold over 500 million copies). The average players per month now exceeds 55 million, which is 15 million more players than the average back in June 2016.


Sending out a big thanks to all the players for this amazing record, the developers of Minecraft have released some interesting statistics regarding the game via Twitter.


Minecraft released the PC alpha version on May 17th, 2009 and the full version on Nov 18th, 2011. It is also available on PlayStation, XBox, and Wii U, as well as mobile platforms. Clothes and accessories themed after the game are also gaining popularity alongside the game. Creepers, dangerous enemy mobs that are always looking for a player to explode upon, and the diamond items are the most popular themes.
