Counter Logic Gaming is changing things up for week 5 of the 2020 League of Legends Championship Series Summer Split. CLG Academy Top Laner Alexey "Deus" Zatorski will be making his LCS debut in place of Kim "Ruin" Hyeong-min.
Ruin started for CLG Academy this week, but CLG didn't announce the LCS roster swap till the morning of its match against TL. The announcement was made via the team's Twitter. Whether Deus will start tomorrow for CLG against Evil Geniuses has yet to be announced.
After the spending the majority of his professional career in South Korea, Deus returned to North American soil to join Counter Logic Gaming Academy for the 2020 season.
CLGA failed to qualify for the LCS Academy League Spring Playoffs, but Deus was one of the few individual bright spots of the squad and has built upon that level of play in the Summer Split. CLGA is 4-4 in eight games with Deus, and after the top lane swap, has already surpassed its win total from the previous split where visa issues affected the team's ability to gel at the rate of the competition.
The LCS Summer Split has not been kind to Ruin. CLG's Top Laner has a league-leading 25 deaths amongst all players in his role. CLG currently sits at 4-4, which is a massive improvement from its 10th place 3-15 Spring Split finish, but the swap up top might be what it needs to elevate its play even further.
Mid Laner Eugene "Pobelter" Park has been a revelation since replacing Lee "Crown" Min-ho midway through spring, and if Deus can synergize well with POB, he could find himself starting in the LCS for the forseeable future with Ruin's struggles this season. CLG's matchup against Team Liquid is at 3:00pm PT today, where Deus will debut against former world champion Jeong "Impact" Eon-young.
