Earlier today, Team Liquid announced that Overwatch player John “Minstrel” Fisher will be parting from the organization.
The news came suddenly, but it appears that Minstrel and Team Liquid parted on good terms. The announcement was made in good humor with a hilarious headlining quote from Minstrel that read, “I’ve decided to move to an esport with real potential, Stardew Valley….”—par for the course from the comical support player.
“Minstrel was, in my opinion, the most funny and honest guy I’ve met in a while,” John Lewis, Team Liquid’s Overwatch manager commented. “I certainly always valued his ability to make everyone laugh, even after the toughest losses.” On a more serious note, he added that Minstrel “seems to be the kind of guy that can play any game at a high level” and that he was confident in his ability to “find some more success in his future”.
As one of Liquid’s support players, Minstrel is best known for his Lúcio plays. He originally played for Hubris, the best Overwatch team in the world, during the closed beta in 2015, before being picked up (and subsequently dropped) by Team EnVyUs. After joining Team Liquid last summer, Minstrel has seen mixed success, dropping two major matches to would-be rivals NRG Esports in major tournaments.
“We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors as a humble farmer armed with nothing but a few coins and some hand-me down tools,” the official announcement stated as the organization waved goodbye to their former teammate. His sense of humor was endearing to his Overwatch family—maybe it can help him find a new one in the Valley.
