On the 20th (KST), Day 4 of the 2020 LCK Summer split took place at LoL Park, Seoul. In the first match of the day, Afreeca Freecs took down Team Dynamics with a set score of 2-1. Kim “Kiin” Gi-in pulled out Urgot in game 3 for the first time in the LCK in over a year, and provided much aid in closing out the series against the newcomers of the LCK, Team Dynamics.
Kiin joined the press room at LoL Park to share his thoughts about the victory in a post-match interview.
How does it feel to take the victory?
We won both games in the opening week. Although it feels good, we couldn’t do anything in game 1 and lost, so I’ll have to watch the replay and fix any mistakes made.
In your opinion, what was the reason that AF lost game 1?
We had a scenario that we were trying to draw, but things went wrong right from the early game, so we couldn’t come back from our deficit.
Recently, because of Mystic performing well, people are saying that the pressure has been somewhat lifted off your shoulders.
I think that no matter how much a top laner gets ahead, if the enemy’s team composition is better, then the top laner feels somewhat useless. Right now, whichever team’s bot lane gets ahead and does well in teamfights will be the team that wins games. Personally, because my responsibilities has lessened, a lot of pressure did get lifted off my plate, and because Mystic’s playing well these days, we’re all putting the spotlight on him.
What was the reason behind picking Urgot in game 3?
I was confident with Urgot. I think that it’s a good champion to pick blind, so I picked him right away. I didn’t get too much practice on him, but as long as you’re good on a champion, any champion’s viable.
There are a lot of champions that are seeing more play in solo queue, like Volibear. Which champion do you think we will see in the LCK soon?
On the live patch, Volibear’s strong, but on the current LCK patch (10.11), it’s still weak. In terms of other champions, we’ll still see champions like Wukong and Aatrox, so I don’t think much will change.
Your next opponent is T1.
We’ll have to prepare well for the match. Not only are they the Spring split champions, they’re just a really good team. If they do start rookies for our match, perhaps they’ll get nervous during our match.
What’s your goal for the Summer split?
I want to go to the playoffs and go as far as we can. As long as the team does well, I’m not too ambitious about my personal achievements.
Lastly, is there anything you’d like to say?
We took two match victories in the opening week, just like how it was during the Spring split. I want to continue to ride this momentum during the Summer.
