Team Liquid has made changes to the Team Liquid Academy roster ahead of the 2020 League of Legends Championship Series Academy League Summer Split. Jungler Jonathan "Grig" Armao and Support Elijah "Yama" Kim have officially joined the TL Academy roster, as confirmed by the team itself in a tweet.
After two seasons in the TSM organization on both the LCS and Academy rosters, Grig began the 2020 season as the starting Jungler for Dignitas. After 2/3 of the Spring Split, Grig swapped places Dignitas Academy Jungler Matthew "Akaadian" Higginbotham. DIG Academy enjoyed a top 4 finish in the 2020 LCS Academy League Spring Playoffs after securing the 2nd post-season seed, but the result was underwhelming in context of the team's meteoric 10-0 start in the Spring Split.
Grig brings a wealth of experience to Team Liquid Academy. Before getting his first starts in the LCS on Echo Fox, Grig was a member of TL Academy during the 2015 season. It's worth mentioning that Shern "Shernfire" Cherng Tai, who was one of the top Academy League Junglers in the Spring Split, is still under contract with Team Liquid. What the roster dynamic will be in the jungle position for Team Liquid Academy is currently unknown.
Yama's history is far less extensive, but the Support role dynamic within the roster is far more clear than the current jungle situation for Team Liquid Academy.
Cao has been removed from the Global Contract Database as of May 6, so it looks as if Yama will be the full-time duo for Samuel "Rikara" Oh, who was signed mid-way through spring when Tactical started splitting time with Yiliang "Doublelift" Peng in the LCS. Yama is a 20-year old rookie, and TL Academy will be the first professional team for whom he has started.
