The rumored exhibition tournament between the LCK and LPL teams are to be held. It will be an event that Riot Korea plans and holds. As the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) had been canceled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, there will be a long break until the next summer split will start. The LCK will be playing the first match on the 17th of June. The unprecedented situation has brought demand for more games, and Riot Korea has answered that they are planning an event during the break.

The first to come up with the discussion was T1’s CEO, Joe Marsh. After T1 took the 2020 LCK Spring Split championship, he brought up the subject on his Twitter, implying the possibility of a friendly match between the LCK and LPL. Fans showed immediate reactions on his tweet. While some were worried about their teams being criticized if they lose, most were interested in the positivity of a special event.

With the hype from the fans, Riot Korea started planning the event. They’ve already been asking teams about their thoughts and most teams gave positive answers. They mostly were very eager about the idea and welcomed the event. The biggest possibility was as many fans saw, a match between the LCK and LPL.

Riot Korea said, “Due to the cancellation of the MSI, the offseason will be for about two months. We are preparing a temporary competition. Not many things have been decided yet, but details and schedules will be announced later on. We hope this event will be a great present for the fans who are struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic.”
