Legends of Runeterra is expanding. On April 28, the region of Bilgewater will join the six regions already present in Riot Games' digital collectible card game. With it come a heap of new cards, mechanics, cosmetics, and more. In this article, we'll walk you through all the new things coming to the game.
Over the past weeks, Riot Games has been teasing and revealing many new cards. In total, more than 120 new cards will be added to Legends of Runeterra. The Bilgewater region itself receives over 60 new cards, while the remaining 60 cards are evenly distributed among the other regions. Bilgewater will have five champions at launch: Fizz, Nautilus, Twisted Fate, Gangplank, and Miss Fortune.
The other regions each receive one new champion. Demacia is joined by Quinn, while Sejuani will empower the Freljord. Maokai enters the field for the Shadow Isles, Swain is the new champion for Noxus, and Vi punches in for Piltover & Zaun. Lastly, Lee Sin is united with his fellow champions of Ionia.
The Rising Tides expansion features a total of six new keywords:
- Attune — Refills 1 spell mana upon being summoned;
- Deep — Gives three attack power and three health if you have 15 or fewer cards left in your deck;
- Plunder — Trigger an ability if you damaged the enemy Nexus earlier this round;
- Scout — If a unit with Scout attacks, you can attack again this round;
- Toss — Discard a given amount of non-champion cards from your deck;
- Vulnerable — Allow a card to be challenged by an enemy.
Aside from new cards to sling, Rising Tides also introduces new types of bling. There are more alternatives to currently existing cosmetics: two new guardians and a new board are making its way into Legends of Runeterra. However, there's more: you'll also be able to purchase emotes and card backs.
The Guardians, Baley and Powder Monkey, will cost 590 coins each:
The new Bilgewater board, named Slaughter Docks, will cost 990 coins:
Ten card backs will be introduced with the arrival of Rising Tides. Each region receives its own card back, which you can obtain by finishing their respective 'regional road'—Legends of Runeterra's progression system. Garen, Jinx, and Yasuo each receive a card back too, which can be purchased for 490 coins.
Lastly, you'll be able to purchase emotes to customize the non-verbal communication with your opponents. There are ten emotes up for purchase, each costing a total of 190 coins.
The Rising Tides expansion preludes the official launch of Legends of Runeterra, which currently sits in an Open Beta stage. On April 30, the game launches on PC, iOS, and Android devices.
