ESPN Esports' Jacob Wolf has reported that Team Liquid AD Carry Yiliang "Doublelift" Peng will be heading back to his former organization TSM. TL put Doublelift on the trading block last week after the team finished in 9th place this spring after four consecutive League of Legends Championship Series championships.
In an interview with Inven Global, Doublelift mentioned that he had struggled with motivation early on in the 2020 LCS Spring Split, but had a realization that helped him find his motivation and work to win back the trust of his teammates.
Doublelift's motivation may have improved, but the results did not. Team Liquid finished in 9th place, two of its seven wins coming from a late-split benching of Doublelift for Team Liquid Academy AD Carry Edward "Tactical" Ra. Now that Doublelift is reportedly headed back to TSM, Wolf's report states that it is expected that Tactical will assume the starter position for TL, but the organization will be evaluating their options over the next few weeks.
If Doublelift is indeed returning to TSM, he will be reunited with his former teammates in Mid Laner Søren "Bjergsen" Bjerg and Support Vincent "Biofrost" Wang. The trio was an integral part of TSM's remarkable 17-1 1st place finish in the 2016 NA LCS Summer Split and subsequent Summer Playoffs championship. As a member of TSM, Doublelift helped the team win three domestic titles and qualify for the 2016 and 2017 World Championships, as well as the 2017 Mid-Season Invitational.
UPDATED 4/26: After an investigation of potential conflict of interest by the LCS, no conflicts of interest were found in TSM's acquisition of Doublelift from Team Liquid.
