On the penultimate day of the 2020 League of Legends Championship Series Spring Split, FlyQuest triumphed over Team Liquid to secure its 10th win of the season. FlyQuest's win over TL punched the team's post-season ticket, making it the second squad to qualify for the 2020 LCS Spring Playoffs after Cloud9.
Team Liquid drafted an early game composition, but was unable to gain a lead early on; instead falling slightly behind FlyQuest. Unfortunately for TL, a slight advantage is all FLY would need to continue to wrestle more and more control of Summoner's Rift away from the reigning LCS champion.
Heading into week 9, FlyQuest was in a three-way tie for 2nd place with Evil Geniuses and TSM. TSM and Evil Geniuses had games scheduled prior to FlyQuest's against 100 Thieves and Cloud9, respectively, but both came up short in their attempts to qualify for the Spring Playoffs.
Team Liquid is now 7-10, and the four-time defending champion's post-season hopes have never looked bleaker. Team Liquid must defeat the powerhouse C9 tomorrow to stay alive, but if Immortals manages to win either of its games in the final weekend of the Spring Split, there will be nothing TL can do qualify for the Spring Playoffs.
FlyQuest's addition of Colin "Solo" Earnest to the starting roster in the top lane has paid off dividends in the form of stability and wave control. Whether FlyQuest will continue to start Solo for the post-season, or if multiple top laners will appear on the FLY post-season roster, will be an interesting wrinkle in the fabric of the best-of-5 format of the 2020 LCS Spring Playoffs.
