The onset of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been a massive disruption to everyday life, esports included. But the esports and streaming community has banded together in a new initiative called Gamers Vs. COVID-19, to promote social distancing and explain why it's necessary.
Streamers, pro players, and commentators alike banded together in the group's initial video outreach, including:
- Gabriel "Fallen" Toledo
- Juan "Hungrybox" Dibiedma
- Eefje "Sjokz" Depoortere
- Rod "Slasher" Breslau
- Carlos "Ocelote" Rodriguez
- Brian Kibler
- Jordan "JKap" Kaplan
- Niclas "Pengu" Mouritzen
- Alex "Goldenboy" Mendez
- Nicholas "Nickeh30" Amyoony
- Edwin "Castro_1021" Castro
- Jorien "Sheever" van der Heijden
This is only a brief list of the more than 8,000 gamers who have taken the pledge thus far, which encourages gamers to social distance, wash their hands often, refrain from shaking hands (or hug and fist bump,) calling a doctor if you feel symptoms of COVID-19, and sharing the guide with family and friends.
The pledge also encourages gamers to show their love for their community by bringing a positive attitude into online matchmaking, providing emotional support to everybody they meet, and performing at least one act of kindness.
You can take the pledge yourself by visiting the Gamers vs. COVID-19 website and by practicing social distancing yourself. We're all in this together, gamers.
