On the 20th (KST), Griffin faced off against DAMWON Gaming in Week 3 of the 2020 LCK Spring. With a set score of 2-1, DWG took down Griffin to reverse sweep the series and take the victory home. As both teams were in the middle of the standings, DWG took the victory to firmly put themselves in the middle of the standings.
DWG’s jungler, Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu joined the Press Room to talk about tonight’s victory over Griffin).
Thoughts on tonight’s victory?
If we lost, we would go 2-3 and fall behind in the standings, so I’m glad we won.
Game 1 was a pretty one-sided loss. What kind of things did the team talk about after the game?
Our team comp in game 1 is a composition that comes online during mid-late game, but because we fell really behind early, we let the enemy snowball the game. We talked about picking champions that can get priority, and we were able to play mid/top-ccentric to comfortably take the win.
There was an early teamfight by the river in the early game in game 3. Did you know that you were going to win?
We were able to win because we wholeheartedly took the fight. We predicted that the enemy will counterjungle, and the enemy Galio was hard pushing the lane, even while tanking damage. We talked about whether to fight or not, and Nuguri told us that he can teleport in first, so we took it and won.
Thoughts on the jungle buffs on patch 10.3? Can you feel the difference between before and after?
I’m not too sure, but although I feel like I’m leveling faster. To be honest, I don’t think it’s a huge buff overall, but it’s a start.
In patch 10.4, a bunch of champions were buffed so that they can also be used in the jungle.
I don’t know about Garen or Darius, but Zed and Talon seems fun, so I wanna try them out in solo queue. Diana was already viable in the jungle, so it’s just a simple buff for her.
How do you currently rate DAMWON’s performance level?
I feel like we’re doing pretty well in practice, but we have a hard time transitioning it to stage performance. As long as we can transition our performance during practice to the stage, I think we’ll get better.
Your next opponent is the other team SANDBOX. As the fellow team that qualified into the LCK a year ago, how do you think you’ll do against them?
I think that all the fellow teams that promoted into the LCK are not performing too well, but among them, we’re the ones that are highest in the standings. I’ll make sure to work hard to beat the team that promoted into the LCK with us.
Any words to your fans?
Thank you to all the fans that cheer for us from home, and I hope the day that you can come watch the games live will come soon.
