On the 12th (KST), Griffin faced off against SANDBOX Gaming in week 2 of 2020 LCK Spring split. With a set score of 2-1, Griffin defeated SANDBOX to finally pick up their first victory of the split. Son “Ucal” Woo-hyeon’s Qiyana played a decisive part in finishing the final game, as his ultimate into 3 members of SANDBOX was truly a supreme display of talent.
The mid laner of Griffin, Ucal, joined the Press Room to talk about picking up the team’s first victory of the season.
Congratulations on the first victory of the season. How do you feel?
We were on a 2 match loss streak, and we were worried not because of the losses, but because the quality of our games weren’t great. However, today’s match vs SANDBOX was better, so I’m relieved.
During the FA season, many people were wondering about your new team. Is there a specific reason why you chose to join Griffin?
My desire to stay in Korea was very strong, and among all the other teams that I was in contact with, I thought that Griffin was the best team that will help elevate my skills.
How do you foresee your team doing in the season?
During prep, we focused on team synergy, other than individual prowess. However, once we started losing, we ultimately came to the conclusion that we lost because of our lack of individual prowess. That’s what we focused on during practice, and if we keep working hard, I believe that things will continue to go only up from here.
You’re competing against Naehyun for the starting mid laner. What are your thoughts on him?
I believe that while he likes to play safe, I'm more of a wild card. I believe that we have our own strengths and weaknesses and we'll be utilized in the right situations.
Why is Griffin the only team that utilizes Senna in the LCK?
Our team believes that despite our losses with Senna, she’s a really good pick, since she was utilized really well in other leagues around the world. I believe that with hard practice, she’ll become a good pick for our team.
Insight on the Varus pick in game 2?
GBM was previously a mid laner in his player days, so when he and I were researching picks that we can use, we thought Varus was good.
Goals for 2020?
By the end of the year, I want to look back and say that I gave it my all. That translates to me becoming the best mid laner in the world, and I’ll do anything to become the best.
Any final words you’d like to leave with us?
Although Griffin’s image isn’t as grandiose this year compared to last year, I want to eventually help craft a team that’s eventually better than Griffin from last year.
