On the 14th (KST), Griffin announced that Son “Ucal” Woo-hyeon will join the team as their newest mid laner. With this signing, Ucal now joins Griffin’s line up of mid laners alongside Shin “Rather” Hyeong-seop and Yoo “Naehyun” Nae-hyun.
Ucal first debuted under KT Rolster in May 2017, and in 2018, he won the LCK Summer championship with KT. He then left the team to join Afreeca Freecs, but unlike his tenure with KT Rolster, Afreeca fell to SKT in 2019 LCK Summer playoffs, and also fell to Kingzone during the 2019 LCK Regional Finals, thus failing to qualify for Worlds last year. Despite the disappointing performance by Afreeca in 2019, Ucal's in-game prowess was recognized by many around the world.
Yet when this young and promising mid laner was announced FA, there were no announcements with regards to any teams picking him up. Now that Griffin acquired Ucal, not only do they hope to fortify their mid lane talent pool, they hope to regain their composure from their disappointing performance during the KeSPA Cup.
